The YMCA of Metro North branches have been busy this month offering members the chance to make a difference. Everything the Y does throughout the year is in service to making us better, both as individuals and as a community. Throughout the first two weeks of April each of the YMCA Metro North branches educated members about the philanthropic work the Y does and provided them the opportunity to give back.

Each year the Y’s ‘Member Donor Week’ is focused on spreading awareness to the members who walk through our doors every day about how each branch supports the communities we serve.  Through sharing members stories and hosting special events, like Art Auctions, Zumbathons, Treadmill Trots and Swim-a-thons, YMCA Metro North raised over $11,000 for the Annual Campaign in just two weeks.

During Member Donor Week each branch hosted ‘1K in a Day’ where they aimed to raise $1,000 in one day through small individual donations.  With the generosity of dedicated Y members, and the eagerness of staff to tell their stories, each branch hit their goal early in the day and went on to exceed, and even double, funds raised to support our communities.

The Annual Campaign scholarship fund ensures that at the Y no one will be turned away for the inability to pay.  With each donation, a difference is made in the life of a child, family or senior. Whether it’s a scholarship so a child can learn to swim or a membership so a senior couple can stay physically and socially active, that time at the Y can be life-changing for so many. In 2018, the YMCA of Metro North provided over $1,000,000 in scholarships and financial assistance to work toward a better us.
