On Saturday, November 19, the Torigian Family YMCA successfully hosted the first annual YMCA of Metro North Half Marathon! Over 300 runners from across Massachusetts and the surrounding states participated in the first half marathon to take place in the City of Peabody. The proceeds from the race will benefit the Torigian Family YMCA to provide financial assistance to individuals and families in the communities the Y serves. This ensures that YMCA programs and services are available to everyone no matter their physical or financial circumstances.

“It was a great day for the Torigian Family YMCA and the City of Peabody,” said Tyler Fleming, Branch Executive Director. “We are thankful to the runners for supporting our cause, and to the sponsors and volunteers who helped make the race possible.”

The Y collected new and used sneakers at pre-race pick-up and registration to donate to the Malawi YMCA in Africa. The Torigian Family YMCA is partnering with the Malawi YMCA as part of the international YMCA movement. Thanks to the generosity of the runners and Y members, nearly 200 pairs of sneakers were collected.

Special thanks to the YMCA of Metro North Half Marathon sponsors: Bostik, Cerqueiras Construction, Everett Bank, Hannaford, Gravoc & Associates, Rotary Club of Peabody, Boston Children’s Hospital, Rousselot, Mountain One Bank, New England Gas Systems, Inc, East Boston Savings Bank, Calendar Press, Inc, St. Mary’s Lynn, Access Information Management, Cataldo Ambulance Service, Inc, Unic Pro, and Ameriprise Financial.

The half marathon capped off the YMCA of Metro North Road Race series, generously sponsored by Lahey Health and Hallmark Health. Widely deemed a success for a first-time race, the YMCA looks forward to making the half marathon an annual event.
