In honor of “Good Neighbor Day,” the YMCA of Metro North invites all neighbors to experience its facilities for free on Saturday, September 28, and Sunday, September 29. Community members aged 18 and older are welcome to explore the Y’s offerings at locations in Lynn, Melrose, Peabody, and Saugus. Activities will include access to fitness centers, swimming pools, basketball gymnasiums, and more.
This special weekend aligns with Governor Maura Healey’s proclamation declaring September 28, 2024, as “Good Neighbor Day” in Massachusetts. The day encourages residents across the state to engage in acts of kindness and build stronger, more connected communities. The Massachusetts Coalition to Build Community and End Loneliness is spearheading efforts to promote events that inspire care and respect among neighbors.
“The YMCA has always been a place where community thrives,” said Kathleen Walsh, CEO of the YMCA of Metro North. “We are thrilled to be part of Good Neighbor Day, offering our spaces as gathering points where people can come together, share in positive experiences, and strengthen the bonds that make our communities so special.”
Sandra Harris, co-founder of the Massachusetts Coalition to Build Community and End Loneliness, echoed these sentiments. “Too many of us feel disconnected from the people we live and work around. Good Neighbor Day of Action is just the first step in creating a culture of kindness and respect because—as a state, as communities, as individuals—we are stronger and healthier together.”
