The YMCA of Metro North is pleased to announce the appointment of Mary Orne as its new Chief Development Officer, bringing decades of distinguished YMCA leadership and fundraising experience to the association.
Orne joins the YMCA of Metro North with a career rooted in building strong communities, advancing mission-driven programs, and cultivating meaningful philanthropic partnerships. She began her YMCA career in youth development and early education, leading high-quality, nationally accredited programs and creating welcoming learning environments for children and families across the North Shore—an experience that shaped her leadership and deep understanding of the Y’s impact. She later advanced into senior operational and executive roles with both the YMCA of the North Shore and the South Shore YMCA, where she helped drive major facility openings, capital improvements, and post-campaign donor engagement, contributing to significant growth in membership, program participation, and early learning enrollment.
Most recently, Orne served as Chief Development Officer for the South Shore YMCA Association, where she led major gift strategy, capital campaigns, and board governance and raised millions of dollars in support by shifting fundraising efforts toward relationship-based philanthropy and transformational donor engagement.
“I am honored to join the YMCA of Metro North and help amplify the extraordinary impact already happening across the communities we serve,” said Orne. “By strengthening relationships and deepening philanthropic support, we can expand access to our programs and ensure the Y continues to change lives for generations to come.”
In her new role, Orne will lead association-wide development efforts for the YMCA of Metro North, including major gifts, annual giving, sponsorships, and donor engagement—supporting the organization’s continued growth and expanding impact across the region.
“Mary is the kind of leader you bring in when you’re thinking about the future,” said Kathleen Walsh, President and CEO of the YMCA of Metro North. “She understands the heart of the YMCA and how to build the relationships that sustain impact over time. As the YMCA of Metro North continues to grow our reach and deepen our work across the communities we serve, Mary’s vision, experience, and thoughtful approach to philanthropy will be instrumental in helping us open more doors to opportunity for families today and for generations to come.”
Orne’s appointment reflects the YMCA of Metro North’s continued investment in strategic leadership and sustainable philanthropy, ensuring the YMCA of Metro North remains a trusted community partner.
