The YMCA’s goal was to raise $2,996, which is symbolic of the distance between the facilities.

The YMCA of Metro North announced the launch of the “Mile by Mile” campaign to support the Palisades-Malibu YMCA in California, which was tragically destroyed in the recent Los Angeles fires. This critical community space served as a hub for connection, programs, and services, and its loss has left the community in need of hope and resources.

The campaign’s goal is to raise $2,996—a dollar for every mile between the YMCA of Metro North and the Palisades-Malibu YMCA. All funds will be directed to aid staff and community members as they rebuild and recover. The YMCA of Metro North pledged to match every dollar raised up to the goal, doubling the impact of every donation.

“YMCA communities are built on the foundation of supporting one another in times of need,” said Kathleen Walsh, President and CEO of the YMCA of Metro North. “The devastation faced by the Palisades-Malibu YMCA is heartbreaking, but it’s also a call to action. We are committed to standing with them, mile by mile, until their community is whole again.”

The Board Chair of the YMCA of Metro North, Dave Gravel, echoed this sentiment, “This campaign reminds us that the Y’s mission of strengthening communities knows no boundaries. Together, we can help provide relief to staff and families in the Palisades-Malibu community, one donation at a time.”

The YMCA of Metro North is inviting its members, supporters, and the broader community to contribute to the campaign by donating at https://www.ymcametronorth.org/support/
