The Melrose Family YMCA celebrated a record-breaking turnout this year, at its Spooky Sprint 5K attracting more than 950 enthusiastic runners and walkers. This is the largest participation in the event’s 15 year history! Held on Oct. 26 the race brought together community members of all ages in a day of fun and Halloween spirit.

“This was our second year running the Melrose Family YMCA Spooky Sprint 5k as a family and my third overall.  We have so much fun seeing all of the costumes, and we love that we get to participate in a family-focused event that promotes a healthy lifestyle and supports our local Y.  The race is always well organized and the staff is amazing.  We always look forward to it!” Thom Giordano, Melrose, Spooky Sprint Race Participant.

“We are thrilled to see such an incredible turnout for the Spooky Sprint 5K,” said Katelyn Papadopoulos, Senior Executive Director of Melrose Family YMCA. “This event exemplifies the Y’s commitment to promoting health and wellness while fostering a sense of community. Each runner not only contributes to their well-being but also helps us support vital programs that empower individuals and families in our community.”

The Spooky Sprint 5K encourages participants to dress in costume, adding to the festive atmosphere. Funds raised from the event will support The Ys financial assistance programs for its members, furthering the Y’s mission to nurture the potential of every child and teen, improve the community’s health, and support social responsibility.
