Saugus YMCA Twisters team took home 200 medals and 46 individual trophies in the Tri-State Championship this past weekend and advance to regionals in Glastonbury, CT, May 20-21, 2023.
[May 11, 2023 – Saugus, MA] The Saugus YMCA Twisters Gymnastics Team hosted the 2023 YMCA State Championship Meet last weekend which included over 350 gymnasts from across the region. The gymnasts who qualified will advance to the Northeast Regional YMCA Gymnastics Championships on May 20-21, 2023 in Glastonbury, CT. which will draw more than 20 teams from the Northeast Region, including New York, Maine, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts.
YMCA of Metro North Twisters, located at the Gymnastics Center at the Saugus YMCA, took 8 All Around First Place Trophies at the Statewide meet including:
- Olivia Pisani (Wakefield, MA) Level 3
- Julia Rulison (Melrose, MA) Level 3
- Lily MacEwan (Melrose, MA) Level 4
- Olivia Ransome (Malden, MA) Level 4
- Lara DeOliveira (Everett, MA) Level 5
- Anabelle Miller (Melrose, MA) Level Xcel Silver
- Kyla Ziobro (Malden, MA) Level Xcel Gold
- Gianna Stasio (Saugus, MA) Xcel Platinum
Melrose’s Julia Rulison scored a near-perfect 9.9 score on the Floor Exercise.
The State Championship Meet had gymnasts from 10 different YMCA’s across Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island. They included: Allard Center, Hockomock, Keene, North Shore, Newport County, Middleboro, Ocean Community, South Shore, and Metro West YMCAs. In all, more than 375 gymnasts competed in the Tri-State Meet in Saugus.
I am so proud of all of our Twisters team and coaches,” saif Jen Simbhudas, Director of Competitive Gymnastics at the Saugus YMCA. “Hard work pays off and the results were proven at the Tri-State Meet. With motivation, perseverance and commitment to perfect routines, we are ready for regionals next week. I cannot wait to see how they perform!”

At the 2023 Northeast Regionals May 20-21: It was so exciting to watch many of our gymnasts compete in their first in-person Regional Championships and bring home 84 medals and 17 trophies!
