The YMCA of Metro North hosted the League Championship meet for gymnasts across Massachusetts and New Hampshire last month. The Gymnastics Center, located on Main Street in Saugus, hosted this championship meet at their state of the art facility for nearly 400 gymnasts and a whopping 700 spectators through the weekend of March 29th-March 31st.

The championship meet raised $23,000 for the YMCA of Metro North Gymnastics Center Annual Campaign Scholarship.  The YMCA fundraises year round to raise money for this scholarship fund that helps children in the community to participate in programs, like gymnastics, who could not afford to otherwise. Each of the competing gymnasts who participated in this meet helped to contribute to the total amount raised through the weekend.

“This meet was a huge success and we are so proud of all of our gymnasts who worked hard all season to be ready for the first of three meets that make up Championship Season”, said Jen Simbhudas, Director of Competitive Gymnastics for the YMCA Metro North Gymnastics Center.  Amy Looney, YMCA of Metro North Program Director notes; “there is something so special about watching your team compete in a meet like this at our home gym! All of the girls should be so proud of themselves!”

The meet was, without a doubt, a success for the Metro North YMCA Twister Gymnastics Team!  Eight teams, levels 3 through Platinum, competed and all placed in the top three for team awards. Three of those teams took 1st place in their level!
