The YMCA of Metro North recognized the support the Y receives to make an impact in the community thanks to the donors, partners and volunteers at the Y Champions Celebration on Thursday, May 23.  The breakfast and annual meeting took place at the Lynn Vocational Technical High School Culinary Arts program space and the students provided breakfast for the guests.

The Y was proud to award the 3rd annual YMCA Youth Champions Scholarship to three YMCA members from our service area who are pursuing higher education.  The YMCA created this scholarship opportunity with the intention to acknowledge the amazing students who have made a difference in their community, demonstrate a strong sense of social responsibility, and embody the YMCA core values of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility.  The scholarships were reviewed by a volunteer committee who evaluated applications and interviewed the finalists. Congratulations to our 2019 YMCA Youth Champion Scholarship winners: Kenneth Do of Lynn, Doreen Perullo of Saugus, and Erin Kidd of Peabody.

The Y Champions Celebration also recognized the support from volunteers and community partners.  Warren Waugh of the Lyon-Waugh Auto Group received the YMCA Community Partner Award in recognition for his support and collaboration. Kathleen Walsh, President and CEO of the YMCA of Metro North said, “Warren is the definition of a community champion and we are proud to honor him.”   Kevin Colcord was recognized for his outstanding commitment to volunteerism with the Y with the Leonard Service Volunteer Award. “We are thankful for Kevin who chose to give his time and support to make the Y and our community a better place,” said Walsh.

The YMCA of Metro North serves the communities of Lynn, Peabody, Melrose, Saugus, Stoneham, Lynnfield, Revere and Nahant.  Each year over 60,000 individuals partake in YMCA programs focused on Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility.
