The YMCA of Metro North is proud to announce new funding that will support its commitment to food security and health for youth and families. The organization was recently awarded a $10,000 Capacity Building Year-Round Food Program Grant, which will enable the YMCA to continue providing free, nutritious meals to youth through the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). This funding, from the YMCA of the USA (Y-USA), will also expand the Y on the Fly mobile food site, as well as incorporate fresh produce from the Demakes Rooftop Garden and culinary education from the Healthy Teaching Kitchen.
In addition, the YMCA of Metro North received a $15,000 Food Market Grant from Y-USA to establish a Community Food Market at the Demakes Family YMCA in Lynn. This market will increase access to fresh, healthy, and affordable food for families and individuals in the surrounding area.
In the past year, the YMCA has distributed more than. 100,000 meals.

The $10,000 Capacity Building Grant will specifically bolster the YMCA’s ability to distribute free meals through its Lynn and Saugus branches, targeting youth and families in need. By using a variety of meal distribution methods.
The Community Food Market is a new program set to launch early next year and will be an important resource for the Lynn community. By offering fresh produce, pantry staples, and cooking resources at affordable prices, the YMCA aims to empower families to make nutritious food choices.
