The YMCA of Metro North is pleased to announce that the organization has been awarded grants from two foundations to support its medical wellness programs. A $5,000 grant from The Foundation Trust and a $4,000 grant from the Melrose Cooperative Bank Foundation keep chronic disease prevention programs free for adults and seniors who participate in Livestrong at the Y, Heart Healthy Maintenance and Stay Fit for Seniors. An additional off-site program will be offered later this Fall in partnership with Melrose-Wakefield Hospital and the Cefalo Memorial Complex.

“We are honored to be recipients of these  grants. Their support is going to allow us to expand and increase access to our programs for adults with chronic diseases. Programs such as Healthy Heart, Stay Fit, and LIVESTRONG, address various chronic ailments and improve the quality of life for participants,” says Katelyn Papadopoulos, Senior Executive Director, Melrose Family YMCA.

The Melrose Family YMCA has enrolled nearly 300 people in its chronic disease prevention programs over the past several years.

“Access to safe and engaging recreational activities plays an important role in enhancing the lives of community members with health challenges. The Foundation Trust is proud to enter this partnership to support the social, emotional, and physical well-being of participants of expanding Melrose YMCA programming,” says Dr. Janelle Johnson, Managing Director of the Foundation Trust.
