The Torigian Family YMCA in Peabody is hosting its Stop the Stigma event on Wednesday, December 18th from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm, to create awareness and support for individuals and families recovering from the effects of substance use disorders. As a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening communities, the YMCA is a partner to local and regional organizations that offer critical recovery services.

The event will include representatives from Bridgewell, Prevention Werks, Healthy Peabody Collaborative, A Healthy Lynnfield, and Lynn Community Health Center throughout the day who will provide information and advice to participants.

Earlier this year the Torigian Family YMCA launched a series of yoga classes for those who are coping with addiction. These classes are taught by Tara Briggs, who practiced yoga to aid in her own recovery and journey to well-being. These classes are a beautiful combination of support, healing and cleansing for those who are dealing with a substance abuse disorder. Each class emphasizes a connection with others who share a similar journey, by participating in a 12-Step based voluntary discussion and group support combined with a Yoga practice specifically designed to cultivate physical, mental and spiritual well-being. Yoga for those in recovery are held Fridays at 6:00pm and yoga for friends and family of those in recovery are held on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month at 4:00pm.
