Planned Giving: Y for Life

Gift in Your Will or Living Trust

Give to others in a lasting way. Explore the Y’s planned giving opportunities and find a plan that is right for you and your family while strengthening the impact of our work to build strong kids, families, and strong communities. You want to leave money in your will to the YMCA of Metro North or any of our branches in Lynn, Melrose, Peabody, Saugus, or Stoneham. You also want the flexibility to change your will in the event that life circumstances change. You can do both. In as little as one sentence, you can complete your gift. This type of donation to the YMCA of Metro North in your will or living trust helps ensure that we continue our mission for years to come.

Types of Charitable Gifts

Life Insurance: When new or existing policies name the Y as owner or beneficiary of your policy, all subsequent premium payments become tax-deductible contributions. Please notify us once you have named the YMCA of Metro North on your life insurance policy.

Charitable Remainder Annuity Trusts & Unitrusts: The structure of these trusts can allow you to make a gift during your lifetime and still continue to receive income for yourself and/or beneficiaries. After the life interest has passed, the remaining principal will help the Y. Donors can receive a tax deduction in the year the trust is established, can avoid capital gains, and reduce estate and gift taxes. Please contact us for details and to notify the YMCA of Metro North of your transaction.

Wills/Bequests: The most common form of deferred gift to the Y is a bequest contained in a person’s will or revocable (living) trust. Please notify us of your intent to give.

Gifts of Retirement Plans: Naming the Y as a primary or contingent beneficiary of a retirement plan (e.g., IRA, SEP, 401(k), 403(b), ESOP, etc.) may enable you to make a larger gift than you anticipated as income and estate taxes may not be imposed when plan assets are distributed to the Y. Your retirement account’s plan administrator can help you designate the Y as a primary or contingent beneficiary on the plan’s beneficiary form. Please notify us of your intent to give.

Bequest Language

Planning for the future and creating the legacy you wish to leave is one of the most effective ways to ensure a lasting impact. Making a gift in your will or living trust, known as a bequest, can guarantee that your legacy endures. Your gift may be a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate or the remainder after all other provisions are specified.

Our federal tax ID number is: 04-2105883

Below is suggested language to use when drafting your bequest.

Sample Language

For an unrestricted gift that allows the YMCA of Metro North to determine how to use the funds based on the most pressing needs, use the following language for your will and/or trust:

“I give to the YMCA of Metro North, a nonprofit corporation currently located at 10 Centennial Drive, Suite 105, Peabody, MA 01960, or its successor thereto, _________ [written amount or percentage of the estate or description of property] for its unrestricted charitable use and purpose.”

To designate your provision for a particular purpose:

“I give to the YMCA of Metro North, a nonprofit corporation currently located at 10 Centennial Drive, Suite 105, Peabody, MA 01960, or its successor thereto, _________ [written amount or percentage of the estate or description of property]. This gift should be used for (state purpose) if and so long as the YMCA of Metro North determines that the need exists. If the YMCA of Metro North shall determine at the outset or at a later time that the need does not exist, or no longer exists or for some reason it is not possible (or prudent) to administer my gift as originally intended, then the YMCA of Metro North may, in its sole and uncontrolled discretion, direct the use of my bequest for a purpose related as closely as possible to that stated above.”

If you have named the YMCA of Metro North in your will or trust, please let us know so we can ensure that your gift is used according to your wishes. Notifying us of your plans will enable us to plan for the use of your future gift. However, if you prefer to remain anonymous, we will keep your name and gift in strict confidence.
