Thank you to Governor Charlie Baker and First Lady Lauren Baker for helping us celebrate.

We open at 5:00 a.m. on Monday, May 10. To celebrate we hosted small, socially distant gatherings with our city officials, state representatives, and the business partners and major donors that made the building of your new Demakes Family YMCA possible. The YMCA of Metro North kicked off a day of celebrations with a noontime ceremony and ribbon-cutting Greater Lynn Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to officially open the new Demakes Family YMCA. In a rare public appearance with family and friends, Governor Charlie Baker and First Lady Lauren Baker joined us to celebrate.

Due to public health restrictions, we had to keep our guest list small, but you can still help us celebrate. Watch our live-streamed opening ceremony and learn more about the impact of the new Demakes Family YMCA. It has our logo on the side, but this YMCA is for you. It’s a resource for the tens of thousands of children and families who will use it every year and make it a part of their lives. Our vision is to make an even greater impact on the health, wellness, and education of people in our region. We are so glad to have you on this journey with us.

“MassWorks funding used to be put toward programs that get an economic return. When the Lynn Y applied, we thought that maybe after all these projects being about the economic return, maybe some of the projects should be about just for the return. The neighborhood, the societal return, the future return,” said Baker. “What makes a project like this special is it will have a tremendous social return over a long period of time.”
